Children's Museum of Richmond

The Children's Museum of Richmond is a great place for kids to spend their day. There are so many exhibits that will keep children entertained for hours, and the museum changes its theme every few months so there is always something new to explore. Families can visit the museum together or take turns having fun with their child while they wait in one of the lobby areas

A short history of the Children's Museum of Richmond

This Richmond City Museum has been a favorite family attraction since 1983, and it remains just as popular today as ever before. With over 30 years in the business, there are very few things that remain unchanged at this museum which is constantly evolving to meet the needs of children from all walks of life.

First opened in the Science Museum of Virginia by a group of concerned parents, this museum has been going for almost 40 years and is currently housed in its own building at 2626 W Broad St Richmond VA 23220 USA. When it moved to this location in 1983, after outgrowing itself within the confines of a science gallery, there were plans for a new building and the museum was renamed “The Children’s Museum of Richmond.

Since opening, they have welcomed over 40 million visitors through their doors including families from all four corners of the world! They offer free admission to members (which is recommended) but charge $15 per adult ticket if you are not part of their membership.

What to expect?

Their interactive exhibits are designed to be both fun and educational for children, encouraging them to use their imagination as they play games that teach social skills like teamwork, cooperation, and sharing. It’s the perfect place for kids of all ages (including adults!) with features such as indoor playground equipment, a dinosaur dig where fossils can be unearthed and brought home, a maze of mirrors where they can try to find their way out and so much more.
